Advancing Democracy in Africa (ADA) strengthens democratic institutions, empowers civic leaders, and defends the right of every African citizen to choose — and hold accountable — those who govern them.
We train the next generation of African civic leaders through the ADA Democracy Fellowship.
We strengthen election integrity through civic education and citizen observation.
We convene the African Governance & Accountability Forum to turn dialogue into reform.
Why ADA exists
Schools can be built and wells can be drilled, but without accountable government, free elections, and the rule of law, progress remains at the mercy of the powerful.
ADA exists to secure the foundation on which all other progress stands. We are a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to promoting democracy, civic engagement, transparent governance, and human rights across Africa.
To lead is to serve. Democracy is simply that principle written into the life of a nation — leaders who answer to the people, not the other way around.
